On July 15, 2015 and September 16, 2015, the Board of Commissioners adopted ordinances 743 and 744, amending regulations regarding the 800 MHz Radio Communication Systems in-Building Certification requirements.  Chapter 138 (formerly Chapter 192) requires all commercial and institutional buildings with an area of 32,000 square feet or more to comply with the 800 MHz radio coverage requirements.  The purpose of Chapter 138 is to ensure the safety of all employees as well as the safety of our public safety staff that may have to enter a building in an emergency situation.

The 800 MHz radio system was implemented in Cumberland County in 2003 and local municipalities, including Upper Allen Township, have converted over to the new unified 800 MHz radio system.  Over the years our emergency personnel (police, fire, and ambulance) responded to calls for assistance, only to discover that many businesses have areas of zero radio coverage.

The Township requires existing and new commercial and institutional property owners to demonstrate compliance with Chapter 138.  Property owners may use any one of our pre-approved vendors or a third party vendor of their choosing to verify their building is in compliance with this Chapter.
