Construction at the intersection of Gettysburg Pike and South Market Street (Updated 07/25/23)

Beginning the week of March 6th, road improvements are expected to begin along Gettysburg Pike and South Market Street.  The improvements include pole relocations from PP&L, lane widening and repaving, new turn lanes, sidewalk and other pedestrian access upgrades, an extension of the left-turn lane for the US Route 15 south bound on-ramp, and more.  No road closures are expected, only lane closures.  Please proceed with caution through this and any other active construction zone.  If possible, use alternative routes.

Construction will take place in two phases.  The following Improvement Map illustrates generalized improvements associated with each phase.

  • Phase I, Improvements along Gettysburg Pike.  Phase 1 is expected to begin in early March and go through the end of June.  Exact start and end dates may change depending on weather, construction material availability, and other conditions.
  •  Phase II, Improvements along South Market Street.  Phase II will begin in July.

Update:  Beginning April 30th, construction will take place overnight from 6:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.  During this time, the traffic signal at the intersection will be on a flashing mode, and flaggers will be out directing traffic.  The traffic signal will return to regular operation during non-construction hours.  Posted: 04/25/23.

Update:  On May 30th, weather permitting, construction is expected to begin earlier than 6:00 p.m.  Please expect delays during the evening commute.  If possible, use alternative routes.  Posted: 05/16/23.

Update:  From June 2nd – June 4th, construction will take place along South Market Street.  Construction crews will be working through the weekend to install necessary infrastructure, which will require crossing under South Market Street.  Expect minor delays and lane closures during this time.  Posted: 05/19/23.

Update:  Phase II improvements have begun along South Market Street.  Construction crews will be working during the week, and the weekends of August 5th and August 12th, to complete the necessary improvements.  Construction work is expected to continue until September.  The exact end date may change depending on weather, construction material availability, and other conditions.  Posted: 07/25/23.
