FEMA is still in the process of updating its Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs).  FEMA has issued a second appeals period, since the first appeals period occurred during the beginnings of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The second appeals period is scheduled to begin in July 2021.  The 90-day period is an opportunity for any property owner or lessee who believes their property rights will be adversely affected by the proposed flood hazard determinations.  FEMA will only review appeals where there is knowledge or information indicating the proposed flood hazard determinations are scientifically or technically incorrect.

To view the draft FIRMs and learn more about the appeal process, go to https://uatwp.org/floodplain-management/.  To view your property and see how the proposed flood map changes may affect your property, select the link to the “Cumberland County Planning Department Floodplain Maps”.

If you have questions regarding the draft flood maps and/or the appeals process and what documentation is required to file an appeal, visit FEMA’s website for more information.  You may also contact them at 1-877-336-2627 or by email at FEMAMapSpecialist@riskmapcds.com.
