Due to safety concerns that tonight’s expected severe storms would endanger children trick or treating, Upper Allen Township Board of Commissioners is moving Halloween to 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2.
“We wanted to keep Halloween on Thursday, but as the weather reports continued to indicate dangerous conditions, we decided moving it to Saturday,’’ said Board of Commissioners President Ken Martin. “The most important thing is keeping our kids safe.’’
Martin said the Township held off on rescheduling to see what neighboring municipalities would do. The Township holds Halloween typically on the same nights as other municipalities in the Mechanicsburg Area School District, but having it tonight just wasn’t worth the risk, he said.
The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook warning of severe thunderstorms with winds 60 mph or higher and the potential for more than 2 inches of rain by Friday morning.
